We spoke with Yolanda about working at Madera County Food Bank. Here’s what she had to say.
Yolanda, what’s your job at Madera County Food Bank?
I’m the Office Assistant at Madera County Food Bank, though my responsibilities vary from day to day. Usually, I answer phones. Other days I help at giveaways. I’m all about order, so I maintain a clean work area.
What are your past work experiences and background before working at Madera County Food Bank?
Most of my past jobs have involved warehouse work. Like sorting/stacking and operating machinery.
What do you love about working for Madera County Food Bank?
I love meeting new people. So far, everyone has been super friendly and caring. Overall, I truly enjoy working at the food bank and helping others.
The work that you all do is so essential for the people of Madera, Yolanda. What impact have you seen working at Madera County Food Bank?
I’ve seen firsthand how many people go through our programs. I’ve seen the necessity of the programs and how many people benefit from them.
Do you have any stories about the people you’ve helped?
We all have plenty of stories while working here, mostly all good ones. I remember helping out at a giveaway here in Madera a few months ago. We had served over 400 people that day, and everyone in line was so grateful and kind to me. They made me feel proud to be working at the Food Bank.
When you’re not working to help the people of Madera, what do you do on your days off?
My days off are for my son and family. We all enjoy hanging out with each other outdoors, and we always end up BBQing.
