Get to know Michelle Ruiz.
Michelle, what’s your job at Madera County Food Bank?
My job title is Operations Manager. I oversee all programs we offer, schedule pickups/deliveries, order food, schedule for giveaways and handle office duties.
What are your past work experiences and background before working at Madera County Food Bank?
Before working at the Food Bank, I went to school to become a Medical Assistant and actually graduated at the top of my class, but God had other plans for me, and I ended up at the Food Bank!
What do you love about working for Madera County Food Bank?
The people I have met over the years working here and the relationships that we’ve built and been able to help people in need.
What impact have you seen working at Madera County Food Bank?
I have seen the Food Bank’s impact on our community grow significantly over the years. We help everyone, from people who have been evacuated due to the wildfires, corporations being shut down because of the pandemic, to agencies that serve hot meals on lunches and families putting food on their tables.
Do you have any stories about the people you’ve helped?
A few years back, a lady called, and I could tell she had never asked for help before and was embarrassed. She told me that her husband died and she needed help. I had her come down to the Food Bank, and I loaded her up with food. She was so thankful and hugged me. Two years later, she returned and gave us a $500 donation and told me how grateful she was.
That’s an incredible story to share about the Food Bank. Michelle, when you’re not working, what do you do on your days off?
I love to do anything outdoors with my family on my days off. I love going to zoos, and I love the mountains and the ocean.
Michelle and the many others that work tirelessly at the Madera County Food Bank need your help. Please consider donating to the Madera County Food Bank, or if you’d like to volunteer and share your time with us, we’re excited to have you help the people of Madera County.
